I'm not sure who to attribute this quote to, but this week marks what has been called the second Game of the Century of the Season in the NFL. On Thursday, the Green Bay Packers will travel to God's Toilet to take on the Dallas Cowboys.
Now most of our readership is probably aligned with the Cowboys. Most of our contributors probably are, too. (I'm looking at you, TY the Cowboy Homer)
But I'm not. My fondness for the Dallas Cowboys Football Club ran as deep and as long as the paychecks they gave me. And even when Jerry was paying me, it wasn't love, it was just business.

So it is with great pride (and great appreciation to DJA tipster NT-93agle) that I introduce the latest inductee to the Sports Rapist Hall of Fame: Rafael Septien

Our latest inductee is a two-for-the-price-of-one swipe: Rafael Septien was a kicker for the Dallas Cowboys AND the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Rapists. I mean, Ragin' Cajuns.
My mistake. (The judges say they also would have accepted Rapin' Cajuns)
Anyway, Septien's NFL kicking career lasted 10 seasons, 9 of those coming with the Cowboys (1978-86). He was the Cowboys' leading scorer each of the 9 years he spent with the team, earning Pro Bowl honors in 1981 and performing admirably in the Cowboys loss to the Steelers in Super Bowl XIII.
Then, in 1987... Fate dealt him a brutal hand, one even worse than the typical embarrassing incidents that tend to befall foreign kickers. He was brought up on charges of sexually assaulting a 10 year old girl.
After a few days, the little girl wanted to drop the charges. Follow the link, but the gold medal quote is from the victim's mother, cited as saying:
''She's just a kid,'' the mother said. ''She is able to forgive and forget easily. She says we can still be friends with him, but it is hard for me, too. I don't want to be friends anymore.''Can you believe she didn't want to be friends with the man accused of aggravated sexual assault of her 10 year old daughter? Ignoring the 10 year olds desire to "forgive and forget" the aggravated sexual assault, then-Denton County D.A. Jerry Cobb refused to drop the charges.
According to an archived report from the New York Times linked above, Septien claimed that the whole incident was a misunderstanding and that he thought he had talked the girl's family out of pressing charges. He insisted he was innocent.
Five and a half weeks later, he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of indecency with a child.
Septien spent 10 years on probation and paid a $2,000 fine. He was ordered to avoid alcoholic beverages and completed his sentence without any publicized problems.
After completing his sentence, Septien moved to Cancun, Mexico, where he is now a Vice President for the Krystal Hotel. And if you're planning on taking the kids down for a family vacation, I have great news for you! "Babysitting service", "children activities", and "Water Sports" are all standard hotel services!
Septien's story has a happy ending. In 2000, he was named to the Cowboys' 40th anniversary team.
Among Septien's fellow honorees were a convicted drug trafficker, a wife-beating drug addict who was sent to prison for fraud and got in a fistfight with police, a pothead advocate of the 9/11 Truth movement, a guy arrested on charges of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman (sorry, can't find an online story from that many years ago, a reference from another blog is all I dug up), a drug-addicted woman-beating check-kiting convict, a tax-dodger who used a charity to "avoid- I mean, to save- on taxes", and Deion Sanders. That's not even including the "Honorable" Mentions, which consist of upstanding citizens such as Michael Irvin, Nate Newton, Erik Williams, Mark Tuinei, and Thomas Henderson.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention a "Diamond among Trash". How right you were, Emmitt.
So for TY the Cowboy Homer and all the Cowboys fans that are really just schizophrenic drama queens who should all be on lithium- this SRHoF entry is for you.

I happened upon this post while looking up information on Septien. I knew a girl in elementary school who said she used to play with Septien and that he used to babysit her sometimes. Even at that innocent stage in my life, I got a strange feeling about it. I hope the little girl he molested wasn't my schoolyard friend, but if it was, I hope that she isn't hopelessly screwed up to this day. What a letch.

Anyway..she dropped the charged because he didn't do it. And the reason he "confessed" to a lesser charge is because he was told by his dumb lawyer to take a plea bargain outside of court....that it would "go away". Well it didn't and wusses like you decide to capitalize on it....
